Paperback copies of "The Outsiders"will not only enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create, but it will also provide an opportunity for students to decrease their screen time. My classroom library was primarily digital when I first began teaching middle school, a year ago. I strive to increase the copies of books in my classroom, now that we have returned to in-person learning. Providing students with a copy of the book will help to teach the joy of the written word as students can leaf through physical pages, review the cover art and bookmark their responses in their very own copy. With these copies, my students will have an opportunity to have a new experience with story-telling and narrative writing. Working in small discussion groups, holding the text in their hands and referencing pages of interest will be possible without a Google meet or a Zoom chat! Students will have an opportunity to power down and truly interact with one another.
