The students will use these calculators to solve equations, estimate square roots, identify patterns, and much more! The students are currently struggling to do basic arithmetic because they have been out of school for so long. They need help with multiplying two-digit numbers, doing long division, and adding big numbers together. The students are also struggling with understanding how powers and roots work. If we can get some calculators into these students' hands, we can get them used to calculating their answers themselves instead of looking up the answers through PhotoMath or Google searches! Students need to get used to doing their own arithmetic instead of letting someone else do it for them. Otherwise, they're going to keep struggling with the standards-eligible math concepts.
