The reward items and academic support learning tools are invaluable to establishing an atmosphere that encourages positive behavior reinforcements and building student confidence. Many of our students come from backgrounds where they were abused or neglected and did not learn appropriate coping techniques nor did they understand why those SEL techniques are important. Not only do they struggle with positive reasoning, many of the students have large gaps in their academic foundations and feel embarrassed by their lower abilities when compared to peers. COVID-19 led to many of our students being isolated at home without the support of consistent reinforcements and hands on learning. Using these rewards and manipulatives, we can teach students the importance of acceptable social behavior and build their confidence in a classroom setting. We will be able to use the manipulatives to support multiple reading and math standards: Math: -3.OA.A.1/3.OA.A.7 -2.OA.A.1 -1.OA.A.1/1.OA.C.6 -1.MD.C4 ELA: -RL 1.1 -RF.1/RF.2 -SL1.1/2.1 SEL: Self-Awareness 1B. Demonstrate knowledge of personal strengths, challenges, and potential.
