These materials are designed to help students develop a deeper understanding of the content by allowing them to physically participate in the learning process in a fun and stimulating way. The goal is for them to genuinely enjoy learning and practice their skills through the use of math and language games. Students will continue learning and reinforcing concepts without realizing it as they participate in fun games and group activities. Kids need to get involved with content, be a part of the lessons, and enjoy the learning process along the way! In first grade, it is especially difficult for students to strictly listen and watch as they learn new material. Having a variety of materials in the classroom allows students to work in small groups where they may have access to activities/games that cater specifically to their unique strengths and weaknesses. All of the materials included on the list were selected with consideration to the student needs that have been observed in the classroom as well as the upcoming curriculum.
