My students have so much that they want to say and I am constantly looking for effective and relevant ways to help them say it. Having a wide variety of therapy materials will help me ensure that my students get exposure to all kinds of vocabulary, social situations, and opportunities to practice their communication skills across multiple contexts. With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have had to pivot to an online platform and re-evaluate how to best meet the needs of our students, especially when we cannot be in close proximity. I would like to expand my library of digital therapy materials to meet the demands of this new era in education with Teachers Pay Teachers gift cards.
Self-advocacy is the ultimate goal for my speech and language students. Providing them with a range of activities and materials to work with gives them opportunities to advocate for their own interests and learning preferences. By 8th grade, students are expected to "[e]ngage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions...with diverse partners" and build "on others' ideas and expressing their own clearly" (ELA-LITERACY.SL.8.1). These materials and supplies will facilitate engaging opportunities for students to practice their expressive language and self-advocacy skills so that they can be effective communicators in the classroom.
