I want students to get back that love of reading. I had a LGBTQ student the other day (who hates reading) bring in a book she was finished with, and now reading for the third time. She told me she LOVED reading about others like herself and wished our school and/or library had other LGBTQ books but sadly they do not. I think having these books available for my students, and others in my school would be a great opportunity for them to open their eyes to the world, and be more inclusive and understanding to others, as well as feel more comfortable with themselves. I would also love to do a book club with my Gay Straight Alliance club at school and read and discuss some of these books and situations that have occured.
