Each of these books will be used as a mentor text to teach and review specific reading skills every day. Using different genres of books to practice identifying and explaining these skills gives them a better understanding of what they are reading, which helps them become more independent readers. When they become independent readers, they develop a passion for reading that inspires them to make personal connections, ask questions, and create ideas for learning new concepts. As a result, these students will develop a desire to thrive in their classroom.
