Students know that when they walk into math class each day, they better be prepared to share their thought process, ideas, and answers with their classmates. We discuss how there is often more than one way to attack the same problem. My students demonstrate their understanding not only by getting the correct answer but also by being able to explain their process using content vocabulary. In the past, I've had students walk up to the whiteboard and share their work with the class; however, that often becomes a time-consuming process of walking up there, rewriting the problem, finding the dry erase marker, moving the projector screen, and so on and so forth. This year, I have begun using an iPad to project problems, diagrams, scenarios, and notes through my projector. It allows me to import pictures, draw all over my slides, use multiple colors, and change to the next problem easily. Since it currently has to be plugged into the HDMI cord, I am tethered to my desk area, and so are my students when it is their turn to show their work and explain. With your donations to this project for an Apple TV receiver, my students will be able to pass the iPad around the room, draw pictures that explain their thinking, tag on to each other's explanations and do so much more, all without having to leave their seats! The Apple TV receiver will allow students to project from the iPad without having to be tethered to a cord.
