Imagine yourself sitting in a meeting and listening to your stomach grumble from hunger. Not only do you immediately get self conscience and wonder if anyone heard the noise, but all you can think about at that point is getting something to eat to make the hunger pains go away. You become so preoccupied with thinking about food that you don't hear anything being said in the meeting. Each day many of my students face that same struggle because they come from homes where there isn't enough food for everyone. As a mom of 3, my heart hurts to see them struggle to focus in class and do everything that is expected of them when all they really can think about is food. My goal is to be able to provide snacks for my students who need it the most. By providing this basic need for them they will be able to focus better and reach their full potential.
