Individual calm-down boxes prevent the spread of germs from traditional calm-down areas and make students feel special because they have something just for them! Students in all grade levels throughout the building who need extra help learning to manage their emotions, be mindful, and calm themselves will be taught to use a calm-down box to check in with their emotions, choose a mindful activity like journaling, coloring, deep breathing, squeezing an animal, or whispering to their animal. When time has elapsed, they will read their pre-selected inspirational card and get back to work! Mindfulness and awareness of one's feelings helps students to work productively and collaboratively in the classroom. The products I have selected will help teachers continue to teach their class while providing students with coping skills to help them return to a state of readiness for learning. I have seen coping strategies help students to be successful in school and in life, and I am excited to provide this opportunity to students and teachers!
