Having the current events and new reading materials in their hands to read will make for amazing projects! It opens up a whole new world most of them have never seen. A print-rich environment helps students create background knowledge when they have not had many life experiences outside of their limited environment. Using these books we can do author studies, create plays for readers theater, discuss the steps and process for writing their own books, living history museum, research projects, develop unique and new ways to do book reports. Incorporate technology to create these projects. Books also help students develop socially and emotionally through text-to-self connections. Students develop empathy through theme and character traits. They give students ambition to become someone that will change the world by reading about others who have done just that! This will help develop their imaginations, their ambitions, their perspective on the outside world.
