Healing from past trauma allows students to be present in the moment and aids in their ability to learn. During trauma intervention groups, students will use a variety of items (kinetic sand, soft rug, aromatherapy, coloring books, etc) to practice self-regulation. Students need several options because their needs change often. My students are noticeably more engaged and have better attendance when they have a safe space at school with appropriate materials for self-regulation breaks and trauma processing. Students will use the writing materials to aid in processing past traumas. At the end of the intervention program, students will be able to keep their journals.
