Cooking at school is a daily event in my class. My students are learning to prepare meals. They make rice with a rice cooker, and grill veggies on a grill. They make paninis too! We have a vegetable and herb garden. I am teaching my students the importance of not wasting food. A Food Cycler grinds up the scraps of food that are not cooked and dehydrates them so they can be added to our composting bin. Having this device will help my students be more organized as they do food preparation because the food scraps go directly into the Food Sorter grinding receptacle. The dehydrated food scraps don’t smell bad! The soil created with dehydrated food scraps will help our herb and vegetable garden thrive. I am teaching my students to re-fuse plastics whenever possible, re-use things, re-cycle and ROT (compost). I want them to be savvy and environmentally conscious shoppers so when they are shopping for a birthday party they buy compostable utensils and plates. In our class we wash our plates and pots. However, on occasion we’ll have family style meals with family members to celebrate birthdays and graduations. In these events where we have a large gathering of people having a set of compostable utensils and plates to use will be useful. That way we can enjoy these unique and memorable events and the utensils and plates we used are biodegradable. Thank you for supporting my project.
