A big part of the early childhood classroom is providing children with choices. Giving children choices to guide their learning experiences helps them gain independence and room to explore. With the choice of what to play also comes the choice of how to play. My classroom is a blank slate that allows children to move around the space as they create. Flexible seating would allow my students to create comfortable spaces that are unique to the play experience they are constructing. The items on my wish list will give students just that, comfort to find their imagination! Many of my students like to spread out and play on the floor. By having items such as the cushions, students can also be comfortable when choosing this setting. The lap seats on my wish list not only allow students a tray to work on, but also encourages them to sit with their legs crossed. This helps promote core strength in young children. While many of my students prefer playing on the floor, I wanted to also offer options such as the activity table. The art center is a top choice for my students as they are able to let their creativity soar. Having a space that would allow them to channel this creativity would be a game changer. The table also encourages collaboration during play for students. This helps students develop their social-emotional skills and helps them build peer relationships. I can already see students sitting on the bench together reading books!
