Help to give my students an opportunity and exposure to diverse forms of critical perspectives. By exposing them to multiple forms of literary criticism, students will gain a richer perspective of various experiences. Toni Morrison's "Playing in the Dark: Whiteness and the Literary Imagination" pushes students to view the experiences through the lens of a left out Africanist presence. This is important for building empathy and fostering greater understanding. I would use this critical text to facilitate deeper discussions using Socratic Seminars, short essays, and projects. Students would use this critical text as a criteria to open the conversation.
