As a first-year teacher, teaching during a pandemic I did not get the chance to start building a classroom library. This project would fund a classroom library, filled with diverse authors, for the students to read in class and at home. This library will help to create lit circles, classroom discussions, and build the student's vocabulary. The goal of the library will be: to help students to read in their free time, to build their knowledge, vocabulary, and understanding of literature. The library will be used on a sign-out basis, students will get time in class to read, will spend some time reading at home, and will learn to have meaningful discussions. We will focus on Socratic seminars, lit circles, and both individual and group-based projects. Overall, a classroom library gives students easier access to the books and gives them more time to read, and more options at their fingertips.
