Walking into my classroom every morning students are greeted with practically an empty set of book shelves and a lack of comfortable seating to just sit and read a good book. I'd like to give the students a chance to develop a love of a favorite character or author, but this can not happen without books at their fingertips. I want to provide students with a comfortable place either on the floor or a stool at a table to immerse themselves and strengthen their reading skills. Students already have the freedom to check out books from our classroom library for nightly reading, but increasing their choice of books to high interest graphic novels and chapter series will give my reluctant readers a nudge. Providing this opportunity for students will allow them to continue practicing their fluency, phrasing and comprehension skills at home.
