Imagine being a child with English illiterate parents and wishing you had someone that could read a bedtime story to you or help you with your homework. Now imagine being that child and having a play back recorder checked out to you by your teacher with a book in a bag. Now you can open your book bag, take out your book and recorder, hit the play button, and hear your very own teacher read you the book in your bag. Plus, because your teacher is bilingual, you will hear the story in English and Spanish. That's what these recorders will offer my students! The gift of learning by listening to someone read to them in both English and Spanish. Each evening, my students will be able to practice their English skills at home by listening to me read vocabulary words, sight words, and stories to them. The mini recorders will be assigned to students for weekly check out, and they will be accompanied by a book in a bag, word lists, and other resources to make studying at home feasible. In no time at all, my EL students will improve in their English receptive skills and grow in the gift of reading made accessible to them by these recorders.
