The classroom is a Math and Science class that supports third and fourth graders. The classroom lacks basic math manipulatives and Science lab equipment to make the lessons relevant. The goal is to create a learning environment that allows for hands-on learning. Over the past two years, the students did not have the opportunity to engage in hands-on learning. Students need the math base ten blocks to help support basic math skills such as place value and adding and subtracting whole numbers. The fourth graders need the base ten blocks to support the understanding of adding and subtracting decimals. Both math and science would benefit from utilizing manipulatives and lab equipment that promotes hands-on learning. The fourth graders need the hands-on component to make the lessons concrete as they enter into fifth grade. The classroom has a place to store the lab equipment and has a designated area to conduct labs safely. The goal is to increase students learning and provide the students with essential Science Lab equipment and hands-on learning to create a positive classroom culture that supports Math and Science.
