The study of Fiction includes Mythology. Most of our students are limited to at risk street life and don't have an inkling of a world outside of street knowledge limitations. I want to take students on a journey into the past by comparing it to the present. I will use charts and resource books to introduce students to Greek, Norse, and Egyptian Mythology. Students will create charts on large post-its to show the relationship between how past/present beliefs in other parts of the world compare to what they believe and are taught modernly. Students will have a choice as individuals, pairs, and groups to choose characters and stories, to create creative timelines, type and print their stories, and provide visual drawings or collages of printed pictures. The markers, sketching pencils, and large post-its will be for them to draw or trace (with a projected image) their visuals of fantastical creatures, people, and places. We would definitely need a printer and paper to print out research, pictures, and final creative writing pieces. Because of Covid-19 precaution, I would like the students to be as safe as possible, so they can feel comfortable working with others without fear. My expectations for the completed projects are to line the room and outside hallways with such imaginative pieces for all students to see. I want kids to read, write, create, imagine and believe that there are places and things that exist beyond there small town...all while learning in a fun way.
