This group of students loves making connections to the world around them. Access to non-fiction will help them build vocabulary and make important connections to grow their literacy skills. After use in the classroom, magazines will be sent home, which will be wonderful for students who may not have access to many books at home. We will also be adding to our classroom library, because students have read our current titles many times over, so new books are always a welcome addition. Finally, we will be adding writers' workshop to improve our writing skills. Many students did not get writing opportunities while attending school virtually during COVID. We hope to boost those missing skills and close the gap in preparation for second grade.
