All of my students are diagnosed with Autism in its various forms. Therefore, my students lack many of the social graces that neurotypical students have, such as sharing, taking turns, and interacting with their peers. One way we work on these skills in the classroom is by utilizing a variety of board games. Board games offer a variety of learning opportunities for learning! Students are able to practice basic skills learned within the classroom, such as counting, communication, and dexterity of fine motor movements that enable them to complete various tasks. Additionally, they help to teach and reinforce a variety of social interactions, including teamwork, how to lose gracefully, and appropriate interactions. My students can learn a great deal while engaging in the fun activity of a board game!
