These materials will help young children in grades pre-K to grade 1 coming to school for the first time ever or grades 2-5 returning after a year and a half of remote learning to make their transitions easier and help them to have more successful school days and additional supports as needed. For students who need special education services, these transitions have been made even more challenging by the COVID-19 pandemic. The bilingual books and play families of different ethnicities will be beneficial social tools for our students of varying backgrounds. The sensory items like the squish and squeeze beads and the emotions dough mats will help the students process their emotions during times of turmoil and uncertainty and give them a safe space to compose themselves before returning to class or before and after evaluations for special education. These items will serve as a whole as tools for students who are having a rough day and need some time to feel better. They often come to our office for extra support and these resources will be used during that time, as well as given out (small items) as rewards and sensory helpers. As a first-time school social worker, I do not yet have the necessary tools and supplies for my students and your donations are greatly appreciated to get me started on helping these kids!
