Our project hopes to bring families to an art making event with their children. After almost a year of remote learning and the isolation many experienced due to the COVID-19 pandemic, communities are in need of coming together in celebration. Our school district acknowledges the essential aspect of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) for our students this year. We believe coming together to create and contribute a lasting art project to the school will be a celebration of not only student heritage and culture, but also their courage and resilience. We would hold an art making event after school. Our idea is to invite families to create mosaic stepping stones together during an extracurricular event. The stones will then later be installed as a pathway through the dirt and shrub areas of the outdoor space. The event will tie in with school goals of hosting multicultural and bilingual events throughout the year that enable families to participate in school culture. We can make our mosaic stepping stones outside to respect social distancing practices.
