To provide inclusion in our classroom, school, and community, students must learn about the world around them. Teaching diversity through children's literature will enable us to discuss many topics related to diversity as well as provide an opportunity for students to identify with characters and see themselves in the story. However, it will also give us the opportunity to explore who is not always represented and why this may be. Leading with literature not only helps students learn to read, but learn to accept others, respect others, and respond through learning activities that can be tied to the story.
