As a behavior specialist and SEL teacher, our students need help to calm down and get back into a positive productive mindset. By teaching SEL, we know that students need the foundational skills in order to learn academics to help them learn to manage their emotions. Students daily are having something interfering with their learning. If we can give them the coping skills and resources to do that they will be more productive in the classroom.
When I am not doing SEL teaching, this will help the behavioral side of my job by enabling me to share those resources and teach the skill the students need to get back on track. We know that when students are dysregulated, they are not focused on their work. With what I am requesting, it will help them get back on track. These materials will be used for students at school. We know our students struggle the most with transitions so I anticipate these resources being used then. During my lessons, I plan to explicitly explain how and why we use these resources.
