In order to best serve students in regards to their reading skills, they need books! Often times, helpful and interesting non-fiction books and literature focused on social studies curriculum are hard to come by. During fifth grade, students focus on U.S. History as part of the state curriculum. By providing my students with more access to literature regarding historical topics, they will be more prepared to engage effectively in the curriculum- whether in-person or online. I plan on using these books during our Novel Study, or as the students like to call it, "Book Club." I have been able to continue Book Club with my student over the pandemic, but have had a lack of books that are connected to our social studies curriculum. With these books, my students will enrich their background knowledge, and become more engaged in our learning. Thank you in advance for helping enrich the lives of my learners!
