These building and creative materials will be used to support a multi-age classroom. This class is home to grades K-8 and supports families choosing to homeschool their children in the academic portion of their day and then attend an abbreviated school day on campus filled with classes and play. I would like to enrich our classroom with natural materials that will encourage creative, open-ended and imaginative play to support the developmental needs of our students. Play is the work of children! It is how children process their day, it is the view from which they see the world, and it is how they learn to work with others, share and find their voices. Play is so important! Equally as important are the materials we place in front of our children to support this development. I have opted for natural materials, like wood, that have been sanded and are smooth. These materials will last a long time as they are designed for building and creating and durability. At the end of each day, the children enjoy indoor play time. Their play is simple and sweet and they love to build homes and farms and store fronts. They imagine and play out their lives from these creations. I would like to give them the materials they need to do this very important work.
