Young children with behavioral and emotional problems often have trouble verbalizing their thoughts and feelings. Play therapy is the natural language of children ages 5 to 10, and toys are their words. Play therapy toys help young children express and process their thoughts and emotions. Children who will use and benefit from the play therapy room are students in grades K-2 who have behavioral and emotional difficulties that interfere with their academic achievement. It is our goal for these students to learn to control anger, manage impulses, and acquire better social skills. I have been a school counselor for two decades and have successfully used play therapy with numerous elementary-age children in the school setting. My current school is brand new, and we have been given the space to open a play therapy room. Both my co-counselor and I will be using this room in our counseling with our students. As we are a new school, however, we are working with a very limited budget for these materials. Your contributions will help us create a school-based play therapy room that will be used for years to come at our school!
