My students will be able to experience music through two different avenues. One, they will be able to listen to the music of different cultures, time periods, composers, and genres through the listening stations. Small stations will allow students to experience more music within a class period and work with classmates in small groups. Talking about music and experiencing it together, will allow them to communicate in ways they haven't before. Secondly, the instruments will allow my students to experience music through playing and creating it, giving them an opportunity to express themselves in a safe place. These students need opportunities to learn how to be themselves. They need to know it is okay to express themselves, and they need to feel safe doing it. Music gives students an outlet not many other classes offer. In a post-pandemic world, learning to appreciate others, and ourselves, is essential.
