Students meet in our Reading Club and choose a realistic fiction book about a culture they want to learn and understand more about. The students in the club decided which books from the different cultures on our campus that they wanted to read. They will be reading the book they choose on their own- during opportunities given during school time, on the bus ride to and from school, in afterschool program, or during their home time. These books will help students in Reading Club participate in academic discourse, explore the culture they are studying, and make connections to their own lives and other books they are studying. Giving students the opportunity to talk and discuss what they read and learn helps them in their understanding and overall literacy.
