My students need access to more books with relatable characters. Through these books, I want to help build their kindness, empathy, and inclusion of others. Through great literature, students can use books as "windows and mirrors". Children should be able to see themselves in the books they read. They should also be able to learn about the lives and experiences of others who are different from them. I hope the books I have picked reflect the human diversity around us and will show them how we can be kind to everyone.
