When you have forty-plus students, the organization can be a make or break in the classroom. My students work in their workbooks daily; recently I have spent time every day passing them out along with supplies. I realized that the less distraction they have on their table, the more attention they will give to learning. I thought it would be a good idea to have bins underneath their seat. That way, their workbooks, and other essentials will always be handy, but out of the way. That also saves a lot of time for me as far as stopping the lesson to pass out workbooks and other essentials. Also, my class does a lot of illustrations to go with their writing. My school is predominately African American students and I've noticed it's been difficult for them to color themselves without crayons that fit the color of their skin. And what's a classroom without a little fun in it! They can use their imagination making different things with play dough as well as playing with their classmates!
