The books in this collection are meant to be read during monthly units (Black History, Indigenous Peoples, LGBTQ+ kids, etc.). They provide a mirror, window, and/or sliding door into a world that is real. Children need to have a space to discuss important topics like race, poverty, injustice, etc. With these books, I hope to facilitate these discussions. There is nothing more powerful than seeing yourself represented in a story. These books show children of all gender identities, family type, race, status, hardship, joy, history, and so much more. The goal is not only to facilitate these discussions but also for a child to pick up a book, see someone who looks like them, and know that our classroom is a safe place, a community, and a home.

About my class
