The Library and Media Center (including our Maker Lab) provide our students with numerous opportunities for using coding, robotics, and STEAM related activities. Focusing on grades 2-5 for robotics and coding, we are building a foundation for two of our groups- Girls Who Code club and our First Lego League Competitive team. Neither of these programs are school funded. We rely on local support and parent participation. We use technology very heavily in each of these groups, however our tech is starting to fail. We have Ipads ,but they are over 8 years old and no longer can support the apps needed to run our robots like Dot and Dash. We need new Ipads to be able to run our robots and coding programs for both groups. The Spike Prime robot is the new robot being used for FLL competitions. We would like to offer our Girls Who Code club the opportunity to learn this new and different kind of robot and hopefully inspire them to have a team or join the team at the middle school after they leave elementary. Through our programs we hope to:
* Improve instruction and student engagement in STEM
* Provide hands-on learning opportunities in STEM with products and solutions that support inquiry-based and active learning
* Integrate other academic subjects into STEM subject programs
* Integrate classroom-based, afterschool, and informal STEM instruction
