These materials will be used for a hands-on lab. Using wind-up toys students will wind the toy and let it go. They will then measure the distance traveled and the time it took to come to a complete stop. They will calculate the toy's rate of change using the formula change in distance divided by time. Students follow an engineer's approach as they identify problems, brainstorm solutions, design, plan, build, test, refine and produce a product or solution. This hands-on lab utilizes finger strengthening wind-up toys to provide a fun pincer grasp workout and are great for building pencil grasp and other fine motor skills.
