If students are to grow in their understanding of music they must have tools to manipulate music concepts. We wouldn't want a surgeon who learned only by watching. We wouldn't expect that a passenger on an airplane could be the pilot simply by taking a few rides seated in coach. We wouldn't anticipate great painters or athletes to develop by watching others perform their skill. If we are to be good at anything, we must have opportunity to manipulate the elements - music is no different. These drums will give my students the opportunity to actively engage with music concepts; to be able to grow their knowledge, develop skills, and enjoy music from their own hands.
