These headsets will allow students to increase their reading skills independently. The microphone on the headsets will give students the opportunity to read to themselves without the discomfort and embarrassment of reading out loud in front of their peers. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more. When middle school students are more confident, they will take more risks. In my classroom, that means pushing through insecuries about reading and finding creative ways for them to increase their reading ability. Headsets will give them a chance to do just that. With the right encouragement and support, they will overcome their challenges, increase their reading abilities, and become lifelong readers.
