After a year or more outside of the traditional school setting due to the pandemic, my students have experienced a difficult time transitioning back to the demands of the classroom environment. I want to create a space that allows my neurodivergent students to decompress or receive sensory input - whatever is right for them. In order to create a sensory corner, I have added several items on my list that will help students regulate their bodies and emotions while in the classroom. Some of these items include alternative seating options, fidgets/sensory tools, and storage to help organize the space. Each one of my students has different sensory needs that must be considered - it is my goal to create an environment that fosters safety, acceptance, and support. I appreciate DonorsChoose for creating a platform to assist teachers in giving their students what works best for them!
