These materials will absolutely make a difference in my students' learning because we know that most teens suffer from apathy and do not consider themselves readers. Yet, through literature, and specifically lit from the Young Adult genre, we have the unique opportunity to provide reluctant readers an on-ramp to success. The more a child reads, the better their chances for overall literacy and prosperity for their futures. We can grow the seeds of empathy and compassion through books. After all, it is our stories that connect us, bind us to our humanity. I want my kids to have that opportunity, to feel a part of something bigger, and to see themselves reflected IN the "something bigger."
