This Diversity Library will build empathy, compassion, and kindness for my second graders. By having a broad selection of diverse books I can make diversity a part of our everyday Storytime, and not just for selected months of the year. Children love rich stories with interesting characters, especially when those characters are other children. By growing my read-aloud selections I can have books that will spark not only imagination, but conversations that could overturn stereotypes and bias. Using literature is such a powerful, accessible way to develop positive attitudes toward diversity and social-emotional learning.
