Students will engage in whole group discussions about the challenges that young people face and how they overcome the challenges. We will make connections to our own lives to see what kinds on intrinsic traits we have to overcome challenges and what extrinsic resources we may also call upon to support us during challenging times. Do all people have the same resources? What happens when a group is marginalized, and doesn't have access to certain helpful extrinsic resources? "The Crossover" by Kwame Alexander is a phenomenal novel, written to capture and engage young adolescent readers to think about what one does when their life is impacted by others or by situations.
