Students read novels and plays all semester long, and we have incredible literary discussions. We want them to have a love of literature throughout their lives because of the benefits it can provide: increases empathy, strengthens the brain, reduces stress, builds vocabulary, and much more. The Lit Rocks project will allow students to literally carry with them this love of literature and remind them how important reading and literature are to a truly well-balanced life. Leaving high school with a physical and constant reminder of how literature made them feel may well ensure a life-long love of reading. Creativity and literature work hand-in-hand, and students will be able to keep something they create that will bring them joy and memories forever. Students will create a replica book cover of their favorite book or write an inspirational quote that they find meaningful from one of the books they have read. These images/quotes will be created on smooth river stones with paint pens and optional magnets on the back. This is a project our seniors will end the year with and a momento to take with them that they will cherish forever.
