I want to keep my students motivated and engaged, as well as understand the value and importance of positive behavior in our classroom. Gone are the days of clip charts and card flipping. This summer I began to search for a new and improved behavior management system. Through my research, I found one of the latest trends called desk pets. Students can earn tokens to buy desk pets, shelter, food and other accessories for their pets. Desk pets will stay near the students throughout the day so they can be read to and even played with. Research states that introducing a reward shortly after the positive behavior occurs will increase the likelihood of repetition. I want my students to be successful, thoughtful, and kind. They deserve every opportunity to grow as a learner and stay motivated to learn.
