As the school librarian, it is important for me to have books from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. I want students to be able to see themselves in the books they read. The books I have chosen are going to help my students of color to be able to see themselves and empower them to become readers, writers, and world changers! These books will also help students from different backgrounds than their peers, see and understand what it may be like to be a student of color. As a school community, it is essential for us to have books that encourage community and kindness. These books will continue to reach students for years and years to come.
