Many of my students struggle to write creatively. However, they are great with their hands! They can build magical places with blocks, paper, and paint. A writing lesson that starts with a hands-on activity is something they enjoy and that gets them excited about writing. When building physical settings, my students describe everything they include in their models and adding a couple of nice Lego sets, and other writing tools to our limited supplies will give them more options and inspiration to brainstorm their narratives and create innovative 3D settings that can lead to new, fantastic stories.
