Keeping learning engaging, relevant, and important for our students in not always a straightforward process. Doing so through reading can be an even steeper challenge. I am attempting to help grow compassionate citizens by assigning my students Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson to read in their American Government and/or US History classes. Students will be given a copy of the book to take home and read, allowing them to discuss what they're reading with friends and family, increasing the impact of this project. Spending intentional time learning racial justice on a masterfully-written work will change hearts and minds and help all of us create a more compassionate society.
