Force and Motion is one of the Core Science Standards for 3rd grade. Magnets help students experience first-hand how force and motion are related to each other. We have some magnetic materials in our classroom that allow the teacher to demonstrate these relationships. However, students learn much more by doing, rather than by just observing. Adding these items to our collection will allow students to experiment and discover individually and in small groups, rather than having only enough supplies for the teacher to demonstrate. Having their own materials will allow the students to manipulate the variables related to force and motion and gain a greater understanding of these concepts.
