As emerging bilinguals, many of my students struggle to read at their current grade level. In addition, they often struggle to find high interest books that they feel they can connect to. One of my goals as an ELD Teacher is to create an environment where my incredibly diverse students have access to books, materials, and content they can connect to and learn from. These students work so hard, and are so excited to practice their English skills. I want to foster a love for reading in all of my students, from kindergarten all the way up to my fifth graders. This literature will be used to deepen literacy skills, like plot, characterization, author's purpose, etc., as well as comprehension skills and vocabulary reinforcement. What better way to practice these skills than with a high interest book like one of these! The book case in this project will be perfect for displaying books, allowing students to shop easily for their next reading adventure.
