The Breakout EDU platform has over 1,500 different "breakout" experiences. Teachers can set up lockboxes, prepare clues, and place various objects and hints around the classroom. Students work in teams to crack the codes and eventually open a final lockbox. When I experienced this outstanding critical thinking and problem-solving educational tool at a Future of Education Technology Conference (FETC) about five years ago, I was so excited to be able to bring something like this to my gifted students. Since the "breakout" games are thematic and based on particular reading skills and standards, they serve as an outstanding tool for students to apply what they have learned. There has not been a time that my students haven't loved doing this and learning other important skills such as teamwork. They learn quickly that "there is no "I" in team" and that in order to be successful, they need to employ each team member's special skill set. The platform also allows for digital "breakouts," which are fun for students to practice and play whether at home or at school. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to share their learning with their families.
